Train / Bus

OPTION 1
The most convenient way to travel directly to Chipping Campden from London Gatwick Airport is to take a First Great Western train from the station at Gatwick Airport to Reading railway station, then from Reading to Moreton in Marsh, then either catch a bus or take a taxi from Moreton in Marsh.

For times of trains click on the following links :
Gatwick – Reading  /  weekdays
Gatwick – Reading  /  Saturdays & Sundays
Reading – Moreton-in-Marsh  / weekdays
Reading – Moreton-in-Marsh  / Saturdays & Sundays

Alternatively you can check the times of any of these trains at www.nationalrail.co.uk.  (This site can also be used for any other rail journey within the UK.)

To travel by bus from Moreton in Marsh to Chipping Campden you need to catch either a number 21 or 22, the number 22 being a direct service whilst the number 21 travels via Broadway and takes a few minutes longer.
In either case, when you exit the platform into the station car parking area, turn left and walk along the exit road from the station grounds. When you reach the junction with the ordinary road, bear right into New Street and continue down New Street until you reach the High Street.  Turn left and continue along the High Steet, cross over a small road leading off to your left, then a few yards further on cross over the larger main road which also leads off to your left .  You should now be at the corner of the White Hart Royal Hotel.  Walk along the front of the hotel until you reach the building just beyond it.  This is the Corn Exchange from where the #21 and # 22 buses depart for Chipping Campden.

Times of buses are shown in a timetable published by Cotswolds Conservation Board, a copy of which can be downloaded by clicking here. This pdf format timetable also has details of other bus services in the North Cotswolds and will be useful for anyone travelling around the area by public transport. The current single fare from Moreton to Chipping Campden is £1-70 per adult. Please note that the number 21 and 22 buses do not operate on Sundays.

Taxis can be pre-booked (see contact details shown above) with one of the companies operating out of Chipping Campden or, if you are unable to book a taxi before you arrive, there is a list of local taxi firms and a public telephone booth in the car park just outside the station booking office. The cost will vary from taxi firm to taxi firm, but you should budget between £15 and £20.

OPTION 2
Another way to travel to Chipping Campden is to take an Airline coach operated by Oxford Bus Company from the upper forecourt of South Terminal or bay 4 of the North Terminal.  Buses run every hour from 07:15 until 23:15 (South Terminal) and from 07:20 until 23:20 (North Terminal) with a few additional services running outside these times. (For details of times click here.)  On arrival at Gloucester Green bus station in Oxford take a short walk to the railway station to catch a train to Moreton in Marsh (trains from Reading mentioned in Option 1 above travel through Oxford). From Moreton in Marsh proceed as in Option 1 above. The overall cost using Option 2 will be less than the cost of Option 1, but with some sacrifice in convenience because of having to change modes of transport in Oxford.
